Banned by TikTok for Exposing Racism - Help!
A powerful discussion on racism you WON'T see on TikTok. Help spread the word—and watch it here
Apologies for the clickbait-y headline, but I need your help.
Earlier this week TikTok struck down a video I posted that’s a clip from last week’s episode: #57 Repercussions of Media Bias on Arabs, Muslims, & the Childfree with Professor Evelyn Alsultany.
This particular clip is of our guest Professor Evelyn Alsultany—an accomplished professor on racism, as well as a noted author and media consultant—explaining that her work tracks the “logics that legitimize inequality.” What does that mean?
In plain English, she was explaining where the idea of the Muslim terrorist came from.
Stereotypes like this are formed and perpetuated by using stories (real or imagined) that make just enough logical sense in order to brainwash us into believing that something like a Muslim ban isn’t so much racist as it is necessary for our collective protection.
Remember how we were lied to by Colin Powell about WMDs in Iraq after 9/11? We were manipulated into agreeing to that, too.
With that one phrase, logics that legitimize inequality, Professor Alsultany sums up everything this newsletter and podcast are trying to help us all unlearn. That toxic cultural propaganda that pits groups against one another…for what?
So we’ll fight each other instead of the real problems: the patriarchy, white supremacy, capitalism, and US global policy that simultaneously supports genocide, disrupts governments, and then also criminalizes the very people who seek asylum from the havoc said policies wreak.
It’s mind boggling that they think they can get away with it. And they do, every freaking day.
So here’s what I’m asking you to do: share this video. You can do that 3 ways by:
Restacking this post (that means resharing on Substack) by clicking the circular double arrow button that is at the top and bottom of this post (as shown in the picture below)
Share this post with other people/on social media by simply clicking this purple share button
And IF YOU HAVE INSTAGRAM: also click on the video—which takes you to Instagram—and reshare it to your stories by clicking the little paper airplane icon or simply leaving a comment. Instagram rewards this behavior by showing it to more people!
Thank you for supporting our efforts to reveal what’s really happening in this world and how we can stop allowing ourselves to be brainwashed!
