Since creating Latinas In Podcasting, I’ve often felt like a mother hen tending to my group of chicks (metaphorically and literally). The LIP chicks, if you will. 😂
Because when you create a community, you also take on a de facto mentor role—even if it’s not explicitly one-on-one guidance.
So watching one of the podcasters I met through the LIP virtual summit last year go through her own transition, and bring me along for her journey, has been extra exciting.
Mafe Salazar submitted a proposal to speak at the LIP inaugural event, and opted to be interviewed instead of creating her own presentation. Since then…
That event was last October. Here she was posting in April that she’s ready to own her voice. That was a mere six months later.
Imagine what you could be doing in six months if you started today! How would you make your life even más chévere in that time?
That’s part of what we discussed on her show, From Tourist to Local, this week.
How to Listen to the Episode
Listen to Living la Vida Más Chévere: Reinventing Life on Your Own Terms w/ Paulette Erato on your fave podcasting app, or:
And since you’re a Super Cheverita, you should know that Mafe is also going to share her own childfree Latina story on LVMC later this summer. So stay tuned!!
Rejection or Redirection?
In every rejection there’s a silver lining. Sometimes they’re not so obvious, or don’t become clear until after something better comes along.
Last month I submitted a pitch to teach a podcasting workshop at Latinafest, “the largest outdoor festival celebrating Latinas in the US…whose mission is to celebrate and promote unity, diversity, and economic inclusion and to amplify the Latina voice while championing Latina entrepreneurs, activists, and artists who are committed to uplifting and empowering the Latina community.”
You’d think a proposal for helping Latinas find the power in their voices, sponsored by Latinas In Podcasting, would be a no brainer for an event that claims it wants to amplify Latina voices. We literally have the same mission!
But it wasn’t meant to be 🤷🏻♀️
This time the silver lining is that I don’t have to sacrifice the weekend of my wedding anniversary, since Latinafest is also on June 1st. But I know there’s an even bigger bonus lurking beyond that, and I can’t wait to find out what that is!
I’ve come a long way on my 100 Rejections journey if losing out on a perfectly positioned speaking opportunity doesn’t bother me. Maybe I’m more ready for the TEDx talk than I think I am???
Oh yeah, did I tell you I’m working on a TEDx talk? If not, surprise!
Anyway, all of that to say that if something you’re looking forward to doesn’t pan out, especially if it’s outside your control, then there’s potentially something even better for you out there.
So keep on putting yourselves out there, mis cheveritas!
