The other side of 10k
And today is Latina Equal Pay Day
Monday was a big day.
It’s the day we officially revealed all 20 speakers for the 2025 Latinas In Podcasting Virtual Summit coming up on October 23-24.
There was also a huge harvest moon on the rise, and the pictures of it across my feed were positively gorgeous. Not unlike this one:
And at 6:23 pm on the west coast, my podcast finally reached the milestone our industry somehow latched onto as a golden metric.
10,000 downloads.
Ryan got some cava so we could celebrate with bubbles (and reminisce about our time in Spain).
And yet, I’m so busy working behind the scenes on the summit, that I don’t really have the energy to embrace celebration.
Especially as our government continues its speed run into full authoritarianism. And Latinas continue to require 281 EXTRA days to catch up to your typical white male.
Latinas are paid, on average, 54 cents to every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men.
That’s laughably bad.
And it’s part of the reason why spaces like Latinas In Podcasting exist. Latinas deserve a place where we don’t have to perform and can also believe in the power of our own stories. And get paid for it.
