Unlearning Toxic Cultural Brainwashing with Shweta Ramkumar - New Episode
On being the black sheep in the family + Non-Mom May is coming!
Later this month we’re gonna dive into what a “black sheep” is, the origin of that term (phrase?), and whether or not it’s something you want to be.
This week’s guest wears the black sheep title proudly. It’s one of the 10 words that are in all her bios.
Episode Description
Self-proclaimed and proud black sheep Shweta Ramkumar sits down with resident childfree Latina Paulette Erato to discuss the parallels between Southern Asian and Latine cultures.
And while both cultures can be conservative, sexist, and patriarchal, both women have been fortunate to have supportive families when it comes to their childfree choices. As a staunch antinatalist, Shweta takes her childfree advocacy one step further by championing the idea that having children without consent is an act of selfishness that begets further suffering.
Key takeaways from this episode include:
Advice to other black sheep on embracing their ability to see through familial bullshit
How embracing a childfree lifestyle can be empowering, but it requires deep self-awareness and clarity about personal values and priorities
Where to find your childfree community if yours is nonexistent
Tune in for what is a revealing look into the commonalities of Asian and Latine cultures, from the childfree perspective.

Prepping for Non-Mom May
As you know, Mother’s Day is next month, which can cause certain feeling for childfree and childless people. There’s nothing quite like being wished a Happy Mother’s Day by someone who simply equates “woman” with “mom”—especially when you aren’t or can’t become one.
To that end, and because it’s also my birthday month (ironically, I was born on Mexican Mother’s Day which is fixed to May 10th), let’s make it a cause for celebration instead!
We’ll be celebrating 30 days of child-freedom (here and on Instagram) with the #NonMomMayChallenge. What is that?
A daily profile of a childfree person, podcast, business, etc
Coupled with a daily prompt to share something about yourself, such as your favorite childhood memory
Here’s your opportunity to nominate a childfree person (or their business, their content, etc) for the 30 day challenge. This could even be you!
Fill out this form or send it to a friend. It should only take about 5 minutes to fill out. The form closes on April 20th or whenever the dates are all filled up!
