Living Our Best Lives Under Patriarchy
Rest up, buttercup. We've got work to do.
The patriarchy is working overtime this month trying to make sure we keep fighting one another instead of it. Because the patriarchy is a load of bullshit with a divide-and-conquer strategy.
My favorite response to come out of the most recent SCOTUS-fueled disasters is this:
Also, since this is from Twitter, it’s worth pointing out that “deadbeat dad” Elon is also an unapologetic pronatalist who tweets responses like:
I’m purposely not linking to that tweet thread because fuck that and I don’t want you to hit your absurd daily limit if Twitter is a platform you still use.
Back to the patriarchy at large.
If you haven’t listened to the most recent episode of La Vida Más Chévere (listening links below), then you’re probably wondering why the hell I’m ranting about Independence Day instead of chilling in the pool with a cold beer while the manly men grill ALL THE MEATS.
Or whatever the stereotypical advertising around this day entails.
To be clear, my best life does indeed include chilling in the pool with a cold beer while food is on the grill.
It’s one of the best parts of being an adult in Southern California: friends with pools, delicious local beer, and cookouts.
We do it all the time.
And also, two things can be true: we can be living our best lives AND rant about the bullshit.
But it is a federal holiday here in “the land of the free” so I hope that means you get the day off. So take the day to rest. Not merely because it’s a holiday, but because you need and deserve rest, regardless of what day it is.
This is especially true if you do have to work today.
