Want to hear something stupid? I dropped out of college* because I thought I was failing.
But I wasn’t failing. Looking back now, I was probably going to be just fine. But I buckled under the pressure of being perfect so I let it get the best of me.
At that time, what “failure” looked like to to my naïve 18-year-old self was a warped view of reality because I’d never learned to actually fail. I’d never been allowed to fail.
Or so I thought. And for a long time, it was a real source of shame for me.
¿Dime si te suena familiar? Are you:
tired of feeling the weight of expectations, either yours or someone else’s?
tired of striving for perpetual perfectionism?
tired of feeling like you can never attain perfection, no matter how hard you try?
tired of being disappointed in yourself for coming up short?
Yo tambien. Yeah, I am too.
Perfectionist tendencies in Latinidad are bred into our DNA by the traditions and culture. But, it doesn't have to be that way.
In fact, we are breaking that cycle!
In this week's episode, we're exploring the topic of perfectionism and how it intersects with our Latine culture. I'll be sharing my own story of struggling with perfectionism in college and how I learned that failure is merely a natural part of life.
I also included 5 ways to manage your own perfectionist tendencies (with commentary about ChatGPT’s role in harvesting them), plus some input from a respected Latina business coach.
These tips will help you let go of the unrealistic expectations you have for yourself and learn to embrace imperfection.
So, if you're ready to break free from the cycle of perfectionism and start living your life on your own terms, be sure to check out this week's episode.
We deserve to love ourselves for who we are, no perfectionism needed.
